Staying Positive this Autumn and Winter!

The colder seasons are here! Autumn has arrived and Winter is just around the corner. I don’t know about you, but I feel that gloomy cloud above me, knowing that those dark, grey and cold days are going to be here for a while.
When it’s colder, I find that automatically my mood changes. I love the warmer months where people are out and about in the sunshine - life feels happier. Colder seasons however, greet us with miserable weather that can scupper our plans. Whilst there’s the festivities upon us, I feel we fall into a routine of staying indoors and often feeling ugh!
So with this in mind, I thought I’d put together some fun ideas and positive reminders for when we’re feeling poop in these colder months.
At home Cinema:
Films are a saviour when it comes to those stormy days outside. Cosying up on the sofa, cuppa in hand and one of my favourite films on - absolute bliss. I love to make myself a list of films depending on my mood. For example, one list I have is ‘I need a giggle’, then I’ve got myself a list of films that I know will cheer me up!
Add a little colour:
Another activity I love to do around this time of year is colouring. To be honest, I love doing this all year round but again, cosying up on the sofa with my colouring book and gel pens, is what I spend at least an hour a day doing! I find this also helps to calm my anxiety, it takes my mind off of life's stresses. Not only that, but the sense of accomplishment I feel when I’ve finished colouring a page is brilliant. Art was never my strong point at school, but this makes me feel like an artist!
Staying connected:
When we start to stay indoors more, we can often withdraw from social plans and meet ups with people. I find that I used to see my friends a lot less in the colder months, than I did in the warmer ones. I now make an active effort to make sure I’m still socialising and seeing people. It’s so important for our well-being to stay connected with those that cheer us up! Whether it’s a FaceTime or a planned meet up, it’s super important for us all to do!
Try something new:
Seeing as we’re going to be spending a lot more time indoors, I find this the perfect opportunity to try taking up a new hobby. This year I’m going to try baking. I’m thinking of setting myself a goal of one baking session a week. Designating some time to do something fun is a fantastic thing that I know will make me feel good!
So, there they are - some tips and reminders that I recommend for making sure to stay as happy as can be during the colder seasons! Don’t forget the colder season festivities too! Halloween and Christmas plans are a must!
Speak again soon, look after yourselves!
